-By Yange Ikyaa

Aiteo, Nigeria’s oil and gas sector giant, has confirmed that the fire accident it previously reported on April 21, 2019 within its Right Of Way (ROW) of the Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL) has been completely put out, even as it confirms sabotage as responsible for the inferno.

Ndiana Matthew, Aiteo’s Head of Corporate Communications,  said this in a statement made available to Valuechain, also explained that the company’s security team dispatched to the accident scene conducted further inspections at various times on Tuesday, April 22 and confirmed this position.

“In line with regulatory requirements, a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) comprising security and regulatory agencies, as well as community representatives and Aiteo personnel will be constituted and deployed to the site to attend to the necessary incident formalities.  This team is expected at the incident site imminently,” the statement read in part.

The statement also further explained that “the Joint Task Force on Security team has confirmed that sabotage of the pipeline at Awoba was responsible; has identified some culprits and is set to act as is necessary.”

Aiteo said it is working on further site preparation and mobilization of specialized equipment to the swamps for further remedial action to facilitate a quick return to full functionality, and that further information will be made available as soon as these occur.
