The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that the operations of vandals have collapsed nine transmission towers along the Papalanto/Abeokuta 132KV Transmission line in Ogun State, leaving Abeokuta and its environs in blackout.
The General Manager of Public Affairs in TCN, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday where she noted that “tower 56 to tower 65 in Obafemi Owode Area of Ogun State were all massively vandalized”.
According to the General Manager of Transmission in Lagos Region, Engr. Mojeed Akintola, the collapse was discovered yesterday after a tripping was recorded, and a team was dispatched to trace the fault.
He added that efforts are ongoing to supply bulk electricity through an alternate line to enable Ibadan Disco to distribute electricity to its customers whose supply was affected by the incident.
Akintola also condemned the activities of vandals, stating that their nefarious acts negatively impacted the grid expansion efforts of the Company and that resources that would have been used to improve grid infrastructure in Ogun State would now be used to replace the vandalized towers. TCN further appealed to host communities of the Company’s infrastructure to help protect their facilities from other vandal attacks.
