“…Also, 49 trucks with 2,138,000 liters of petrol were dispatched to the immediate environs of Abuja”
In a bid to ensure availability of Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as petrol, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has dispatched 183 trucks with a total of 8.13 million litres into the Federal Capital Territory, it’s environs and four other states.
The move is part of measures aimed at ensuring that Nigerians have adequate supply of the products before, during and after the festive season.
There had been reports that marketers are experiencing challenges in getting the product.
Some reports have claimed that the development has resulted to a situation where many petrol stations are out of stock which may have triggered panic buying among motorists.
But checks showed otherwise as many of the filling stations are dispensing Premium Motor Spirit.
Figures obtained from the NNPC on Monday showed that as of November 15, 183 trucks out of the 185 trucks received at the Suleja Depot have been dispatched with 8,219,510 liters of PMS to bridge the distribution gap.
A breakdown of the figure showed that 82 trucks were dispatched to Abuja with 3,733,513 liters of fuel; Kogi 22 trucks with 968,001 liters of PMS; Niger 6 trucks with 265,000 liters; Nasarawa 22 trucks with 944,996 liters while Kebbi has two trucks with 90,000 liters
Also, 49 trucks with 2,138,000 liters of petrol were dispatched to the immediate environs of Abuja.
Two trucks with a total of 80,000 is on kept hold and may be dispatched any moment from now.
In order to ensure the free flow of petroleum products supply, it was gathered that the the NNPC will be activating it’s Monitoring Team on Tuesday.
The Corporation had last week cautioned Nigerians against engaging in panic buying.
It said this in a statement issued by Garba Deen Muhammad, Group General Manager,Group Public Affairs Division
of the NNPC that it has sufficient stock of the product to last the festive period and beyond.
The statement reads in part,
“The NNPC Ltd hereby urges the general public not to engage in panic buying of petroleum products, as the Company has sufficient stock of the products that will last the festive period and beyond.
“The NNPC is also engaging all stakeholders to ensure smooth supply and distribution of products to every part of the country.”
