Nigeria to host World Energy Congress next year – Sylva assures

Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva has affirmed a proposal by the World Energy Forum (WEF) to host it’s annual international energy congress in Nigeria come October 2021.

The event which was held in Abu Dhabi In 2019 is intended to be the biggest ever world event and global enterprise that would be a mile stone to trigger Africa and the world towards achieving sustainable energy.

The Congress provides an opportunity to explore critical energy issues, network with peers and learn from high-level speakers including policymakers, industry leaders and carefully selected energy experts from across the globe.

Welcoming the Delegates led by the Chairman of WEF, Prof. Prof Harold Hyun Suk Oh in Abuja on Monday, Sylva Said ‘the WEF I believe is at the core of what matters to the global community. Energy is the bases for everything. We know the centrality of energy even in the existence of man.

‘One of the first things I did when I assumed office was to attend the WEF congress held in Abu Dhabi.

‘If what I saw there is what you plan to bring to Nigeria, then we are honoured and will give you all the support required.

‘Nigeria is a hub of production for different forms of energy and we would like to have the support of WEF to explore our gas resources and clean carbon emissions. The WEF is an organization we must work with.

‘I will relate this to the President and I am sure he would be happy about this plan to make Nigeria an eccentric of such a global discuss.’

Stating it’s mission, Prof. Hyun Suk oh said ‘the forum is a call for globalization. To empower nations and people. Industrial revolution is energy revolution. Every society has obligation to provide universal energy access for social and economic development.

‘We bring all the important voices of energy and transparent, unbiased and neutral discussions on energy. Because of the human capital in Nigeria, we feel there is potential here.’

The head of Local Organizing Committee, Mr Danladi Kifasi thanked the honourable Minister for his concession and warm reception while urging him to use his expertise and experience as a former governor to ensure that the WEF Congress was a fruition.
