Awardee: Engr. (Dr) Abubakar Isa, Chairman/CEO, Spectrum Engineering Ltd

Abubakar Isa was born to the family of Isa Yahaya in Maiduguri, Borno State. He attended Yerwa Government Comprehensive Science Secondary School, Maiduguri between 1980 – 1985.

He enrolled for the Assistant Works Superintendent Training School (AWSTS) under the defunct Borno State Water Board, now Ministry of Water Resources from 1985 – 1986 and thereafter got an automatic employment with the Agency (Board State Water Board) and worked for six (6) years before proceeding for further education.

Abubakar was admitted into University of Maiduguri in 1994 to study Civil & Water Resources Engineering which he completed in 1999 with second class upper division. In addition, he attended courses within and outside the country, particularly on Project Management; Health, Safety and Global Leadership Forum in USA.

Abubakar Isa is well known with over a decade of experience in Civil Engineering practice. After his Degree Programme from the prestigious University of Maiduguri, he worked for another four (4) years with the defunct Borno State Water Board and rose to the position of Deputy Director before retiring to establish his company (Messrs Spectrum Engineering Ltd).

Currently, he is the Chairman/CEO of the Spectrum Engineering Ltd which designs and supervises various projects amongst which are: Design and construction of School of Engineering Technology, Federal University of Technology, Owerri with Six (6) faculties and sixteen (16) departments. COREN rated it as the best Faculty of Engineering in Nigeria; construction of School of Management Technology; Federal University of Technology, Owerri, as well as design and construction of Faculty of Pharmacy and School of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Benin, Benin City.

The company was also responsible for the construction and installation of equipment of Bio-Medical Research Laboratory, University of Benin, Benin City and construction and installation of equipment to Urology and Renal Transplant Laboratory, University of Maiduguri, among numerous other projects.

Some projects he attracted and executed within the University after graduation are: Construction and furnishing of Senate Building and Chambers; Construction of Faculty of Arts, and Pharmacy; Construction and furnishing of 560 capacity hostels, construction and furnishing of Professors Lodge and construction, furnishing and installation of equipment to Urology and Renal Transplant Laboratories, among many others.

As part of his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Abubakar donated equipment worth N20million to Faculty of Engineering. At present the construction of Laboratory is ongoing.

An avid professional, Engr. Abubakar Isa is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) and member American Society of Civil Engineering.

Abubakar Isa bagged many Awards amongst which are: Doctorate of Science (D. Sc) Honoris CAUSA – Imo State University; Fellow NSE -Nigeria Society of Engineers; Fellow NICE – Nigeria Institute of Civil Engineers; Fellow NES – Nigeria Environmental Society; Fellow SSN – Solar Society of Nigeria; Fellow FNAAP-Fellowship for the North America Academic of Professionals, , among numerous others
Engr. Abubakar Isa is married and the marriage is blessed with children, one of them is a Civil Engineer.
