TotalEnergies has discovered oil and gas at Oil Mining License 102 (OM 102), an offshore oilfield in Nigeria.

The Country Communications Manager for TotalEnergies, Dr. Charles Ebereonwu,  revealed this in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday. He said that the Company had discovered oil and gas in OML 102, around 20 kilometers (km) from the Ofon facilities.

Ebereonwu, in the statement, quoted the President of Exploration and Production at TotalEnergies, Mr. Nicolas Terraz, who had disclosed that the Ntokon discovery opens a promising outlook for new tie-back development.

Terraz said that the new discovery is located in shallow waters, which is 60km off the South-Eastern coast of Nigeria, the Ntokon-1AX discovery well encountered 38 meters of net oil pay and 15 meters of net gas pay.

In his own words, “its side-track Ntokon-1G1 encountered 73 meters of net oil pay in well-developed and excellent quality reservoirs. Ntokon-1G1 tested successfully up to a maximum rate of about 5,000 barrels per day of 40 degrees (40°) API oil.

After the start-up of production of the Ikike tie-back on OML99 in 2022, this new success in the area further demonstrates the potential of nearby exploration to create value within our low-cost, low-emission strategy.”
