The Tragic Story of Ahmad Aliyu: A Young Life Changed Forever

Ahmad Aliyu, a 25-year-old Chemical Engineering student at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, had his life turned upside down when he contracted typhoid fever some years back. The illness led to a series of devastating complications, including a damaged appendix, a portion of his large intestine, and a severe infection that affected his legs.

A Bright Future Ahead

Ahmad, like many young people, had big dreams and ambitions. He was determined to become a chemical engineer and work in the oil and gas sector, a field that has always fascinated him. He had envisioned himself designing and developing innovative solutions to improve the efficiency and safety of oil and gas operations. With his strong academic record and passion for the field, Ahmad was well on his way to achieving his goal.

A Desperate Fight for Survival

But fate had other plans. Ahmad’s illness led to a series of surgeries, including a double amputation of his legs. The procedure was a last resort to save his life, but it has left him with a daunting challenge: learning to live without his legs. Despite this setback, Ahmad remains determined to pursue his dreams, but he needs help to overcome the physical and financial barriers that now stand in his way.

A Glimmer of Hope

Ahmad’s family is now seeking help to raise funds for a pair of artificial legs, which will cost a staggering N15,650,000.00 (Fifteen Million Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira). The hospital charges for the training and fitting of the artificial legs will add an additional N726,275.00 (Seven Hundred and Twenty Six Thousand Two Hundred and Seventy-Five Naira). With these artificial legs, Ahmad hopes to regain some independence and mobility, and eventually return to his studies and pursue his career goals.

A Plea for Help

Ahmad’s father, Ali Ahmad Gwarzo, is desperate to see his son regain some semblance of normalcy in his life. “We are appealing to kind-hearted individuals and organizations to come to our aid,” he says. “Ahmad’s story is a tragic reminder of the fragility of life, and we hope that people will be moved to donate and help him regain his independence. He has always been a bright and ambitious young man, and we believe that with the right support, he can still achieve his dreams and make a meaningful contribution to the oil and gas sector.”

A Father’s Legacy of Integrity

Ali Ahmad Gwarzo, a retired Immigration officer, is no stranger to integrity and selflessness. In 2010, he was decorated with the national award of MON (Member of the Order of the Niger) by former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for rejecting a N3 million bribe offered to him by a syndicate of counterfeiters of Naira notes, international passport, and traveling documents. This act of courage and integrity earned him national recognition and respect. However, today, the family is in dire need of the public’s help to save the dream of his son, Ahmad.

From Hero to Helpless

The irony of the situation is not lost on Ali Ahmad Gwarzo. A man who was once hailed as a hero for his integrity and selflessness is now struggling to save his son’s future. The family’s financial situation has been severely impacted by Ahmad’s medical expenses, and they are now relying on the kindness of strangers to help them overcome this challenging time.
