The President of the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN), Ayo Ademilua, has said that for Nigeria to attain net zero by 2060, the Federal Government needs to further take the Energy Transition awareness to the grassroots.
Ademilua gave this advice at the Renewable Energy Stakeholders Workshop, which held in Lagos on Wednesday, with the theme, ‘Charting The Part To A Sustainable Energy Future For Nigeria: Reviewing The Energy Transition Plan.’
According to him, the awareness was key to enable the country achieve the United Nation’s transition plan, which it had signed unto.
In his own words, “the federal government needs to let the common man at the grassroots know and understand why he needs to stop cutting down trees and using charcoal for cooking. If the man at the grassroot does not know the reason he has to keep the environment clean and green, then, the purpose for the energy transition would be eventually defeated.”
The REAN President also emphasized on ensuring quality standard of solar products produced and imported into the country. He said that quality control agencies, such as the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and others would be partnered with in order to eradicate the inflow of fake solar solutions into the Nigerian market.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Consistent Energy Limited, Dr. Segun Adaju, explained that the introduction of a robust institutional frameworks was important to growing the renewable energy sector in the country as the sector currently contributes less than 2 percent to power supply in the country.
