NNPC warns against fraudsters posing as its representatives

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has issued a warning to the public over an emerging scam involving individuals impersonating company officials and soliciting money from unsuspecting investors.

In a statement released on Monday, the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, revealed that the impostors have been demanding fees in exchange for arranging meetings with NNPC’s board members, executives, and senior management. He described the scheme as both unauthorized and illegal.

“The general public is advised to beware of individuals and companies falsely claiming to represent NNPC Limited,” Soneye said. “Their tactics include soliciting fees for meetings with the NNPC board of directors, executives, and management staff. These actions are unauthorised and illegal.”

He particularly urged foreign investors and international business entities to exercise caution and verify any claims of affiliation with the national oil company. “If approached under such circumstances, we strongly encourage victims or targets to report the incident to the appropriate authorities immediately,” he added.

Soneye emphasized that all genuine business interactions with NNPC Ltd are conducted through its official communication channels or authorized business units.
