Nigeria Missing as Angola Tops African Solar Users Chart

Nigeria has been found missing on the list of top countries with solar power installations in Africa, according to a recent report released by the Africa Solar Industry Association (AFSIA).

The report indicated that Angola topped the chart with 284 megawatts of solar installations in 2022, followed by South Africa with 111.8 megawatts, while Egypt came third with 80 megawatts, leaving Ghana in fourth position with 71.3 megawatts, and Mozambique with 41.9 megawatts in fifth position.

Africa is currently home to more than 10 gigawatts of identified solar projects, and a continent where solar power installation growth has increased by 60 percent. AFSIA says about 30 countries across the continent have installed more than 1 megawatt, while 16 countries installed more than 10 megawatts, and two countries have installed more than 100 megawatts.

It also indicated that more African countries are adopting solar energy, mostly in the commercial and industrial sector, and this has grown the industrial solar power installations in Africa to above the 10-gigawatt mark.
