FG to Offer Cheaper Alternatives to Petrol as Palliative Measures

Adaobi Rhema Oguejiofor

The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mallam Mele Kyari, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is planning to offer Nigerians alternatives to petrol.

Kyari disclosed this in a statement that was released on Wednesday after a meeting with the President at the State House. He said that plans are being put in place in order to help Nigerians make the necessary switch from petrol to the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as fuels for their vehicles.

According to him, the new administration is planning a structural approach in order to make cheaper fuel options available so as to reduce the effects of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.

The GCEO also noted that the plans would take effect soon and will be part of the President’s palliative measures in order to ease the burdens of citizens.

CNG as an alternative to petrol presents a number of advantages, such as lower cost, reduced emissions, and improved fuel efficiency.
