Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has recently launched a safety college scheme to boost employee awareness on safe implementation of tasks and improve the overall safety culture within the organization.
This was revealed in a statement signed by EKEDC’s General Manager (GM) of Corporate Communications and Strategy, Babatunde Lasaki, who explained that the scheme is a training course meant to educate 90 per cent of the operations team members, which includes linesmen, lines mate, cable jointers and many others before the end of the year.
Lasaki also noted that EKEDC has realized that majority of accidents caused within their network was due to knowledge deficiency and procedural breach in operations, and that the initiative will ensure retraining of all staff to build safety culture.
He also revealed that 1100 personnel will be trained in Standard Protection Code, in the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Security Modules in 10 batches of 110 participants per batch. Lasaki added that the initiative would facilitate the desired level of ownership, engagement and participation that is required to reduce and eliminate accidents and sustain the HSE Management System in the Company.
