Argentina Expresses Interest in Nigeria’s Gas

By Teddy Nwanunobi

Latin American country, Argentina, has expressed interest to partner with Nigeria in the area of gas.

The Argentine Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Alejandro Herrero, revealed his country’s interest when he met with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva.

Both men, who met at the NNPC Towers, Abuja, spoke chiefly on gas development, utilisation, and the need for more intense broad-spectrum partnership between Nigeria and Argentina.

Argentina, Herrero said, desires to introduce its gas specialty to Nigeria.

“We have very strong ties, and this is a good opportunity to strengthen those ties. We want the possibility of introducing our specialty which is gas.

“Argentina has huge experience and capacity in the area of gas,” Herrero said.

Sylva thanked the Ambassador and his team for the visit, and expressed his satisfaction with the productive ties between Nigeria and Argentina.

“I am fully ready to encourage this relationship. I know we have done something together in gas.

“We want to gradually move away from oil to gas, and one of the countries we can partner with is Argentina. We are willing to work with you to improve gas utilisation,” Sylva assured him.

Valuechain reports that Sylva has never hidden his relentless drive to open up the Nigeria’s gas sector in a bid to position the oil rich West African nation for a post-oil future.
