NNPC to digitize downstream operations

In a world where digital trends have become a feature of life, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has promised to explore more avenues to enhance downstream competitiveness using innovation and information technology.

This comes as the Mele Kyari led NNPC on Monday reiterated its commitment to digitizing its downstream operations while declaring open the 13th Oil Trading and Logistics Expo taking place in Lagos.

The Chief Operating Officer Downstream Adeyemi Adetunji who made the assertion at the conference with the theme “Growth, Innovation and Technology” said there was a need for focus shift in the downstream sector as new market trends towards a digitized and automated world had come into sight.

Represented by the Managing Director Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Bala Wunti, the COO further stated that all hands must be put on deck to fully digitalise the sector, noting that the new trends revolved around the convergence of a hydrocarbon economy and  a data economy.

“Old approaches of driving Cost efficiency and Safety are pretty much exhausted, hence in line with the Corporation’s TAPE Agenda, NNPC is aggressively working on digitizing its downstream operations.”

The Oil Trading and Logistics Expo is an annual Pan African platform dedicated to the promotion of business, policy and stakeholder relationships in downstream petroleum markets across the continent.
