NNPC To Begin Oil Exploration In Two Local Government Areas Of Plateau State

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it is exploring for oil and gas in Wase and Kanam Local government areas of Plateau state. The NNPC said the two local government area which part of upper middle Benue Trough has oil and gas prospects capable of contributing to the economic growth of Nigeria.

The installation exercise was disclosed recently when management of the corporation paid Governor Simon Lalong a courtesy visit in Jos, capital of Plateau state.

Group Managing Director (GMD) of the NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari through the Group Manager, Frontier Exploration Services, Abdullahi Bumai said the corporation had acquired and used modern equipment which resulted to the identification of hydro carbon materials in the upper and middle Benue Trough. He added that the NNPC has identified additional oil and gas province known as the Komani discovery in addition to those of the Niger Delta as well as increase of the Benue Trough with a billion barrel of oil reserve.

The GMD also promised to engage people of Plateau State in different operations in the two identified areas.
