Consequent upon the release of a video that went viral in the social media, suggesting that Dangote petrol, marketed by the MRS Petrol Stations, lasts longer than that of the NNPC, Nigerians seem resolute to opt for the former.
Valuechain reports that Abuja motorists, cyclists and other petrol consumers were seen in their numbers, storming MRS Petrol Stations nearest to them to benefit from the cheap pump price while the healthy competitiveness that might bring monopoly to an end lasts.
Recall that a video displaying two generators of same brand, alongside same quantity of petrol from both Dangote and NNPC, separately fed into the two generators, and started at the same time, showed how the generator containing the NNPC petrol stopped while the other remained running for sometime. Thereby portraying Dangote petrol as lasting longer than that of NNPC. A comparison that saw customers evading the national oil company’s product for Dangote’s.
What that means is that Nigerians, having been buying petrol at cut throat pump price since the withdrawal of subsidy, have been clamouring for some sort of succour which Dangote Refinery’s emergence looks good to oblige.
Reports have it that various MRS petrol stations in, especially, Abuja over the weekend through Monday, 17th February, 2025, have been beehive of activities as motorists and cyclists turn out in numbers for cheaper petrol.
It would also be recalled that the NNPC, upon the release of the viral video, swiftly issued a statement frowning the viral video saying it was a deliberate attempt to demarket its product and would not take it kindly. It urged Nigerians to discountenance the viral video aimed at rubbishing its product.
