Bluetti, an energy firm in Lagos, has donated over 100 E-40 series solar systems through its “Lighting an African Family (LAAF)” initiative to Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech).
LAAF project is Bluett’s corporate social responsibility initiative with the objective of providing solar-powered lighting solutions that are both cost-effective and environmentally friendly to under privileged African families. YabaTech is the first beneficiary of the project in Nigeria.
During the donation in Lagos, a tech influencer, Mr Odeyemi Tolulope, who explained the importance of the product to students, affirmed that the solar home systems would solve the challenge of poor electricity supply.
He maintained that developing solar power generation is important for Nigeria in view of the epileptic nature of power supply in the country. Tolulope also said that “Nigeria is a country with abundant solar resources but perturbed by serious electricity theft and catastrophic grid outages, which have frequently drawn its people into darkness and hindered economic prosperity.”
According to him, the power stations provided for the students will make them more productive, especially when there is power outage, as it will avail them the opportunity to continue reading or engage in other productive activities.
The representative of the Rector of YabaTech and Director for TetFund Centre of Excellence in Skills and Entrepreneurship & Sustainable Development in the institution, Architect Sherifdeen Ayodele, expressed delight over the donation by Bluetti, saying that the solar will go a long way in assisting the students in their daily campus life routine.
