Bill Gates Urges Developed Countries to Cut Gas Emissions, Reduce Clean Energy Cost

By Moses Patience Chat

The Founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, has urged rich and middle-income countries to rapidly get rid of their greenhouse gas emissions and come up with innovative ideas to cut down the cost of clean and renewable sources of energy.

Gates said this on Wednesday in Lagos, while speaking at the 2023 Pan African Youth Innovation Forum which is themed; “Unleashing Africa’s Innovative Future”.

According to him, asking developed countries to reduce gas emissions is as important as asking developing countries to do away with old sources of energy and that “in terms of climate change, the huge amount of carbon and other greenhouse gases that have been put into the atmosphere come from the rich countries and the middle-income countries.”

He noted that although the world has not reached its target in terms of reduction in gas emissions, there has been great progress.

Gates also maintained that the issue of sustainability needs to be addressed locally in sectors such as agriculture to prevent situations where the overuse of fertilizers could cause harm to the ecosystem.
