The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) have renewed their commitment to closer coordination as they work to improve regulation across Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
The NUPRC Chief Executive, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, made a return courtesy visit to the NMDPRA Chief Executive, Mallam Rabiu A. Umar, at the Authority’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and coordination between the two regulatory institutions, particularly in areas where the upstream, midstream and downstream segments of the petroleum industry are interconnected.
Both regulatory chiefs emphasised the importance of a coordinated approach to regulation in supporting the growth, investment and stability of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The visit followed an earlier courtesy visit by Umar to the NUPRC after he assumed office as the NMDPRA Chief Executive, reflecting the continued engagement between the two agencies.
The relationship between the regulators has also extended to their respective industry engagements.
Umar recently participated in a golf tournament organised by the NUPRC in Warri, while Eyesan attended the recently concluded West Africa Refined Fuel Markets Conference organised by the NMDPRA in Abuja.
The engagements come as Nigeria continues efforts to improve coordination across the petroleum value chain, with regulators overseeing different stages of the industry.
The NUPRC is responsible for regulating Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector, while the NMDPRA oversees the midstream and downstream segments.
The two agencies said sustained institutional collaboration would help promote a more coordinated and efficient petroleum regulatory environment and support investment across the industry.
