Taskforce foils vandalism attempt on Agip facility in Bayelsa

Attempts by hoodlums to vandalize wellheads belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, NAOC in Olodiama community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has been thwarted by operatives of a private security firm, Dalon Security Services.

Dalon Security Services is a private taskforce, with speciality in securing oil and gas infrastructures, and it is owned by the APC governorship candidate in the last election in Bayelsa State, Chief David Lyon.

SweetCrude gathered that luck ran out on the suspected vandals, when the locals noticed some persons trying to cut and take away Agip wellheads, and promptly reported the incident to the taskforce.

Operatives of the taskforce immediately swung into action, apprehended the culprits and hand them over to the joint military taskforce in the area, who took them to Olugbobiri.

Speaking on the development, Head of Field Operations, Environment Rights Action, Morris Alagoa, commended efforts of the Oil and Gas Taskforce in securing oil facilities from vandals.

“Information just reaching me indicates that some persons trying to cut and take away Agip wellheads somewhere in Olodiama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State were discovered and promptly reported to the Oil and Gas taskforce in the area.

“The culprits were apprehended immediately; supported by security operatives.

“Kudos to the Oil and Gas task force for job well done. Without the vigilance of locals and the alertness of the Oil/Gas task force; the closest communities would have been the first suspects and even harrassed by security agencies.”

Alagoa explained that although the Oil and Gas Taskforce works closely with security agencies, their efforts has helped in bringing local refinery operations and oil theft in Agip’s Swamp Area operation in Bayelsa State, to almost zero level.

He added that Agip at some point threatened to pull out of the area, as it was operating at a loss owing to the activities of oil thieves, which also affected revenue accruing to the state from the federation account in terms of 13percent derivation.
