Regulators of the Nigerian petroleum industry at the weekend hosted their first ever invitational golf tournament at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
The event was jointly organized by the two regulatory agencies given birth to by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, who is the chief executive officer of NUPRC, said golf is a very popular sport all over the world and apart from the health and social benefits of golf, it is also for networking.
Farouk Ahmed, who is the chief executive officer of NMDPRA, was represented at the event by Ogbugo Ukoha, the agency’s executive director for distribution, system, storage and retail infrastructure.
Regarding energy transition in the oil and gas industry, Komolafe said, “we need to network with investors, so this golf tournament provides that easy opportunity for us to achieve that, and this programme is across board, across the players in the industry.”
According to him, “since I came on board, we have started the engagement, so within our 30 days in office, we have been able to engage with investors, both IOCs and the independent marketers, so this is event also, like I said, will set a very good platform to enhance our social and official initiatives for value and productivity.”
