Nigeria is Still Africa’s Top Crude Oil Producer – OPEC

By Adaobi Rhema Oguejiofor

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has said that Nigeria, after its 1.3 million barrels per day crude oil production in February, is still Africa’s top crude oil producer, surpassing Angola and Algeria.

This was disclosed in OPEC’s latest monthly oil market report released on Tuesday, March 14.

The Nigerian production volume published in OPEC’s report tallies with the volume earlier released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

According to the February report published by OPEC, the total amount of crude oil produced by the 13 Oil producing member countries was at an average of 28.92 million barrels per day, which shows an increase of 117 barrels per day on a month-on-month basis.
