Labour Leaders Arrives Venue For Meeting With FG Over Strike

In a recent development, the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has convened at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for an important meeting with government representatives aimed at resolving the ongoing nationwide strike over minimum wage, as reported by Sahara Reporters.

According to a source from the union who spoke to PUNCH, the meeting with government representatives was confirmed.

“We are also meeting with the government representative in the SGF office today. Already seated awaiting the government representative,” he said.

Despite attempts to reach the NLC spokesman, Benson Upah, for comment on the proposed meeting with the government team, calls and text messages went unanswered.

Sahara Reporters previously highlighted how the government had extended an invitation to leaders and stakeholders of the NLC and TUC for an emergency meeting in response to the ongoing nationwide strike.

The Labour Union initiated the indefinite strike on Monday, despite last-minute efforts by the National Assembly leadership to prevent the industrial action.

Representatives of organised labour stated on Sunday that they lacked the authority to stop the strike, stating that the industrial action would proceed as scheduled.

However, the labour leaders committed to convene internally later to deliberate on the appeal made by the Senate and the House of Representatives leadership to suspend the strike, with the aim of easing the hardships faced by Nigerians.
