The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has urged the Federal Government to ensure that the economic gains from fuel subsidy removal translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
PENGASSAN President, Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, said Nigerians, particularly workers and low-income earners, have endured significant hardship since the removal of the petrol subsidy in 2023.
He noted that improvements in key economic indicators, including GDP growth, foreign exchange reserves and the balance of trade, must begin to reflect in the daily lives of citizens through improved access to food and better living conditions.
Olabiyi-Agoro stressed that the debate over whether the subsidy should have been removed is now belated, saying the priority should be to ensure that Nigerians benefit from the policy.
He also acknowledged that the removal has contributed to improved availability of petroleum products, while reaffirming workers’ willingness to support measures aimed at strengthening the economy.
