States, FCT Pockted N2.9trn Special FAAC Allocation For Security, Infrastructure In 2 Years

Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) received a total of N2.9 trillion for security and infrastructure between 2024 and 2026, TheCable can report.

The disbursements were contained in the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) documents presented at its June 2026 meeting, detailing funding allocations for “intervention to states infrastructure and security”.

It was understood that this category of funding is often deducted from gross revenue before the FAAC shares net accruals to the federation account among the three tiers of governments.

According to a section of the report, subtitled ‘Ledger of Savings on Intervention to States Infrastructure and Security’, a total of N3.17 trillion was budgeted between January 2024 and May 2026 out of which N2.9 trillion has so far been disbursed.

The funds were from non-oil revenue, according to the document.

A breakdown of the monthly disbursements indicated that states and the FCT received N259 billion in April 2024 and N222 billion in May 2024.

The payments increased to N370 billion in September 2024, before dropping to N333 billion in December of the same year.

In 2025, disbursements amounted to N216 billion in February, N200 billion in April, and N250 billion each in May, June, and July respectively, before dropping to N100 billion in August.

In March 2026, funds were released twice — N198 billion for states while N5.5 billion went to the FCT, marking a total disbursement of N203.5 billion for the month.

About N252 billion was disbursed to states and the FCT last month.

The existence of this special funding arrangement is virtually unknown to Nigerians as the states and the FCT hardly talk about it or give account to the public.
