According to a report by TV Platinum on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, a mild debate ensued at the House of Representatives during plenary following a motion raised by Honourable Ado Doguwa, who sought the intervention of the House to protect billionaire industrialist, Aliko Dangote, from ongoing or potential labour action.
The motion, however, sparked reactions from several lawmakers, including Honourable Kingsley Chinda, who called for caution and due process.
Speaking during the session, Chinda stressed the need for lawmakers to uphold the principle of fairness and avoid rushing to conclusions on matters that involve disputes between employers and workers.

He said, “I believe that as a parliament, we might not be too hasty in running conclusions. We should uphold the principles of fair hearing.”
Chinda’s statement was a reminder of the legislature’s constitutional duty to act impartially, particularly when mediating between private entities and organized labour.
He noted that while the House has the responsibility to protect national economic interests, it must not appear biased or partial in labour-related issues.
Observers believe Chinda’s intervention reflects a growing concern among some lawmakers about the increasing tendency to use legislative motions to defend corporate interests rather than ensuring justice and equity for all parties involved.

Labour unions have, in recent times, accused certain business conglomerates of unfair labour practices, prompting public criticism and government scrutiny.
Honourable Chinda emphasized that before taking any legislative position, the House should allow all stakeholders, including the affected company, the workers, and relevant unions, the opportunity to present their sides. This, he said, is the only way to maintain public trust in the integrity of the parliament.
