Nigeria achieves 96% OPEC output target in august – NUPRC

Nigeria’s upstream oil sector posted a year-on-year increase in production, averaging 1.63 million barrels per day of crude oil and condensates in August 2025, compared to 1.58 million bopd recorded in the same period last year.

This was disclosed in the Crude Oil and Condensate Production Report for August 2025, released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.

According to the data, crude oil output stood at 1.43 million bopd, representing a 5.47 per cent rise from the 1.36 million bopd produced in August 2024, showing steady recovery and stronger operational performance across the industry.

Daily condensate production in August was 197,229 bopd, slightly lower than the 220,435 bopd produced in August 2024.

The NUPRC said, “Notably, Nigeria’s crude oil output in August met 96 per cent of its OPEC quota, which is set at 1.5 million bopd. This demonstrates the country’s capacity to meet its production targets under the OPEC agreement.”

On a month-to-month basis, however, production declined. The report noted a 4.7 per cent fall in combined crude oil and condensates, down from 1.71 million bopd in July. Similarly, crude oil production fell 4.8 per cent from 1.5 million bopd in July 2025.

“The month-on-month drop was driven by a single day unscheduled maintenance at an oil facility. In the month of August, the lowest and peak combined crude and condensate production were 1.59 million bopd and 1.85 million bopd respectively,” the statement signed by Head of Media and Strategic Communications, NUPRC, Eniola Akinkuotu, added.

Terminal-level data showed Forcados Terminal led production with 8.99 million barrels in total 8.08 million barrels of crude oil and 915,200 barrels of condensates.

Bonny Terminal followed with 6.26 million barrels, comprising 5.8 million barrels of crude and 418,270 barrels of condensates.

Qua Iboe Terminal delivered 4.99 million barrels, with 4.94 million barrels of crude and 50,500 barrels of condensates, while Escravos Oil Terminal produced 4.18 million barrels, including 4.08 million barrels of crude oil and 107,000 barrels of condensates.
