…Wants All Culprits Prosecuted

As the ripples generated by the recent alleged discovery of financial irregularities by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the handling of the country’s refineries reverberates, the Arewa Consultative Youth (ACY) on Monday questioned the exclusion of Dapo Segun, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of NNPC Limited from the over 5 trillion naira refinery rehabilitation probe.
The group of youths from 19 northern states in a statement to Daily Independent accused the anti-graft agency of allegedly shielding the NNPC Chief Financial Officer while harassing northerners in the refinery rehabilitation probe.
The statement also alleged that the top NNPC official was part of the OVH acquisition deal.
While noting the recovery of $10 million and N5 billion, respectively, by the EFCC, from those who allegedly mismanaged the refinery rehabilitation, ACY President, Mallam Kabiru Yusuf, commended moves to charge the accused to court.
However, the northern social-interest initiatives insisted that Dapo must be part of the probe to make the case look real and not just a ploy to witch-hunt persons from a section of the country.
“Our attention has been drawn to the joyous news that EFCC recovered over 10 million dollars and 5 billion naira from those who mismanaged the refinery rehabilitation and will also be charging the culprits to court soonest.
“Dear hard working EFCC, remember Mr. Dapo Segun, a Yoruba man who was NNPC Treasury Head, later became NNPC Executive Vice President Downstream and was in charge of the refinery rehabilitation as EVP Downstream when all these happened.
“He was also in charge of the OVH/NNPC retail controversial acquisition, and to make matters worse he was elevated and currently the NNPC Chief Financial Officer during all these periods.
“So the country will be shocked if the man who was incharge of the refinery activities, gave instructions to the MD of refineries, later became in charge of all payments etc is excluded but the MD he gave instructions, contractors of contracts, he presided over contract awards, and if former officers mainly from the North who occupied the position he held and holding is charged and he is exempted, this will lead to national outrage and anger against EFCC as engaging in ethnic profiling in the fight against corruption and it will rubbish the good works you are already doing.
“Nobody is above the law, no matter the tribe or else stop the investigation.”
