Claims That Our Fuel Doesn’t Last Misleading – NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has firmly dismissed a viral video alleging that its premium motor spirit (PMS) falls short compared to fuel from Dangote Refinery.

According to Channels Television, in an official statement issued on Saturday, the company described the claim as misleading, false, baseless, and entirely unfounded.

The controversial video featured a content creator who asserted that he purchased a litre of Dangote petrol from an MRS filling station in Alapere, Lagos, for N925, and another litre from an NNPC outlet in Ojodu Berger at N945.

According to the video, when both fuels were tested on separate generators, the one powered by NNPC fuel ceased operation after 17 minutes, while the generator running on Dangote petrol continued for 33 minutes.

NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, refuted these allegations, attributing them to unverified, amateur research that lacks both credibility and professional oversight. He emphasized that many of the PMS supplies at the Lagos station in question are actually sourced from Dangote Refinery—a key strategic partner in bolstering local production and ensuring energy security.

“Sourcing from Dangote Refinery ensures adherence to strict industry standards and guarantees the quality of the petroleum products available to Nigerian consumers,” Soneye stated. He further condemned the video as a deliberate attempt by economic saboteurs to mislead the public and tarnish the reputation of NNPC.

NNPC has warned that it will take decisive legal action against anyone found to be spreading these unfounded claims, stressing that such deliberate misinformation will not be tolerated. “We urge the public to disregard such fabricated content and rely only on verified sources for accurate information,” the statement added.

The company reiterated its commitment to maintaining fuel quality, affordability, and availability for all Nigerians, ensuring compliance with global industry standards despite the persistent spread of deceptive narrative.
