NNPC disowns report on refinery parts sale

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has denied claims that it is selling refinery scrap and equipment, warning the public to disregard fraudulent reports and individuals falsely presenting themselves as its agents.

The company said it has not issued any request for bids, tenders, or expressions of interest for the sale or disposal of scrap materials, refinery components, or equipment from any of its facilities, stressing that no such approval has been granted or process initiated.

NNPC explained that the clarification became necessary following reports that some individuals were posing as its representatives and attempting to fraudulently facilitate the sale of so-called scrap metals and refinery equipment to unsuspecting members of the public.

It further stated that these individuals are not authorised by the company and are acting with the intent to mislead the public for fraudulent gain.

NNPC reiterated that any legitimate disposal of assets would only be carried out through approved, transparent procedures and would be publicly communicated via its official channels in line with regulatory standards.

It therefore advised members of the public, corporate organisations, and industry stakeholders to disregard any such claims or solicitations and to exercise caution when dealing with individuals making such representations.

The company also urged the public to report suspected fraudulent activities or impersonation to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

NNPC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of Nigeria’s national energy assets.
