Governor Umo Eno

Towards the need to managing its sub-national electricity markets, Akwa Ibom Government has established an electricity regulating and holding company named: Akwa Ibom Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC), to take care of its electricity assets.

‎Mr. Iniobong Robson, the Commissioner for Power, told journalists in Uyo on Friday that the decision was taken to translate the federal government reforms in the sector into reliable electricity supply for homes, schools, hospitals and businesses in the state.
‎
‎Robson said that the reforms were anchored on extant laws such as the National Electricity Act, 2023, and the Akwa Ibom Electricity Law, 2025.

‎He stated that the Electricity Act allows states to establish and regulate their respective intrastate electricity markets, while the state policy outlined the objectives and responsibilities of stakeholders.
‎
‎The Commissioner said that the state electricity law established the Akwa Ibom Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC), and provided for the establishment of the Akwa Ibom Electrification Agency.

According to him, the reform was adopted following the unveiling of the Akwa Ibom electricity policy and law in September, 2025.
‎
‎Robson said that the Gov. Umo Eno-led administration was committed to rehabilitating and commercialising electricity assets in the state.

“The government is also committed to establishing a state-owned electricity distribution company and inaugurating the state’s electricity market,” he said.

The Commissioner said that the target of the Akwa Ibom Government was to provide quality electricity services to every household in the state by 2034.

‎Robson said that the Ibom Electricity Holding Ltd had commenced the regularisation of the state’s shareholding in key electricity assets such as the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.

He urged residents to protect electricity infrastructure, report vandalism and participate in consultations by AKSERC on tariffs and service standards.
